Campsites in Geiranger

There are quite a number of campsites in Geiranger. Not so strange of course. The presence of the Geirangerfjord and the imposing mountains and waterfalls attract tourists from all over the world to Norway. Not only campers, but also many cruise ship tourists. This causes a lot of crowds in the small village of Geiranger, which normally has only 300 inhabitants, especially in high season. Can you understand what happens when a cruise ship with 3.400 passengers on board arrives at the port of Geiranger. If you want to know when which cruise ship is in Geiranger, check geiranger-norway-cruise-ship-schedule. Read more

Campsite on the Geirangerfjord or would you prefer something quieter in the mountains?

The campsites in Geiranger are partly on the fjord and partly in the mountains. Geiranger Camping is centrally located in the village. The cruise ships here are almost right in front of your tent, caravan or camper. It is very busy here, especially in high season. The same applies to the campsites towards Trollstigen: Geirangerfjorden Feriesenter and Grande Hytteutleige og Camping. On the route to the south is located just outside the village: Vinje Camping, "the campsite at the waterfall". A very popular campsite, partly because of the excellent sanitary facilities. But certainly also because of the location:

A little further "up the mountain" to the south is another campsite: Dalen Gaard Familiecamping. It is generally a lot quieter here.

Dalsnibba viewpoint Geiranger

In the vicinity of Geiranger you have several viewpoints. Both if you take the route to the north (Trollstigen!) and the route to the south (Lom-Stryn). Along the way you have the most beautiful views, but the best view (in clear weather!) is on the route to the south. The road first climbs to an altitude of 1.038 meters. When you arrive at the lake and the Djupvasshytta hotel, you can take the Nibbevegen (toll road!) and the road rises to an altitude of no less than 1.500 meters. According to many, the Dalsnibba viewpoint is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the world:

What to do on the Geirangerfjord

The Geirangerfjord is one of Norway's most famous fjords. The fjord is located in an imposing environment with snow-capped peaks and waterfalls. At the end of the fjord is the nice village of Geiranger, usually with a number of cruise ships in port:

The Geirangerfjord is surrounded by natural beauty and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List for a reason. You can make beautiful boat or kayak trips. Boats and kayaks can be rented at several places in the village. You can also take the ferry to Hellesylt. On the way you will see at least the Seven Sisters Waterfall, a waterfall that descends from a height of about 300 meters in 7 streams into the fjord. Really beautiful.
